God’s Strategic City, Corinth

사도행전 18:1-11

1 그 뒤에 바울은 아테네를 떠나 고린도로 갔습니다.
2 그 곳에서 바울은 아굴라라는 유대인을 만났습니다. 아굴라는 본도 지방에서 태어났지만, 글라우디오가 모든 유대인에게 로마를 떠나라고 명령했기 때문에 그의 아내 브리스길라와 함께 얼마 전에 이탈리아에서 고린도로 옮겨 왔습니다. 바울이 아굴라와 브리스길라를 찾아갔습니다.
3 마침, 그들의 직업이 같았기 때문에 바울은 그들과 함께 묵으면서 그들과 같이 일했습니다. 천막 만드는 것이 그들의 직업이었습니다.
4 바울은 안식일마다 회당에서 유대인과 그리스인과 함께 토론을 하면서 그들을 설득하려 했습니다.
5 실라와 디모데가 마케도니아에서 고린도로 온 이후, 바울은 말씀을 전하는 일에만 힘썼습니다. 그는 예수님께서 그리스도이심을 유대인들에게 증언했습니다.
6 그러나 그들은 바울에게 대들며 욕을 했습니다. 그래서 바울은 자기 옷에서 먼지를 털며 그들에게 말했습니다. “여러분이 구원 받지 못한다면 그것은 여러분의 책임입니다. 나에게는 잘못이 없습니다. 이제 나는 이방인들에게 가겠습니다.”
7 바울은 회당에서 나와 디디오 유스도라는 사람의 집으로 갔습니다. 그는 하나님을 경외하는 이방인이었습니다. 그의 집은 회당 바로 옆에 있었습니다.
8 회당장 그리스보와 그의 온 집안 식구가 주님을 믿었습니다. 그러자 고린도에 사는 다른 많은 사람들이 이 소식을 듣고 예수님을 믿고, 세례를 받았습니다.
9 어느 날 밤, 환상 중에 주님께서 바울에게 말씀하셨습니다. “두려워하지 마라. 조용히 있지 말고 계속해서 말하여라.
10 내가 너와 함께 있다. 내 백성이 이 도시에 많다. 그러므로 아무도 너를 공격하거나 해치지 못할 것이다.”
18:11 바울은 그 곳에 일 년 육 개월 동안을 머물면서 사람들에게 하나님의 말씀을 가르쳤습니다.

1 Then Paul left Athens and went to Corinth①. / ①Athens and Corinth were major cities in Achaia, the region in the southern portion of the Greek peninsula
2 There he became acquainted with a Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently arrived from Italy with his wife, Priscilla. They had left Italy when Claudius Caesar deported all Jews from Rome.
3 Paul lived and worked with them, for they were tentmakers① just as he was. / ①Or leatherworkers
4 Each Sabbath found Paul at the synagogue, trying to convince the Jews and Greeks alike.
5 And after Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching the word. He testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah.
6 But when they opposed and insulted him, Paul shook the dust from his clothes and said, “Your blood is upon your own heads–I am innocent. From now on I will go preach to the Gentiles.”
7 Then he left and went to the home of Titius Justus, a Gentile who worshiped God and lived next door to the synagogue.
8 Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, and everyone in his household believed in the Lord. Many others in Corinth also heard Paul, became believers, and were baptized.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, “Don’t be afraid! Speak out! Don’t be silent!
10 For I am with you, and no one will attack and harm you, for many people in this city belong to me.”
11 So Paul stayed there for the next year and a half, teaching the word of God. Continue reading →

사도행전 16:6-15

6 그들이 아시아 지방에서 복음 전하는 것을 성령께서 막으셨기 때문에 바울과 그 일행은 브루기아와 갈라디아 지방을 두루 다녔습니다.
7 그들은 무시아 지방 가까이 이르러 비두니아로 가려 했습니다. 그러나 예수님의 영이 허락하지를 않았습니다.
8 그래서 그들은 무시아를 지나서 드로아로 내려갔습니다.
9 바울은 밤에 어떤 마케도니아 사람이 바울 앞에 서서 “마케도니아로 건너와서 우리를 도와 주십시오”라고 애원하는 환상을 보았습니다.
10 바울이 그 환상을 본 뒤에, 우리는 하나님께서 우리를 부르셔서 마케도니아 사람들에게 복음을 전하게 하셨다고 확신하고는 즉시 마케도니아로 떠날 준비를 했습니다.
11 우리는 배를 타고 드로아를 떠나 곧장 사모드라게로 갔다가 이튿날, 네압볼리로 갔습니다.
12 다시 네압볼리를 떠나서 로마의 식민지요, 마케도니아 지방의 중심 도시인 빌립보로 갔습니다. 우리는 며칠 동안, 그 곳에서 머물렀습니다.
13 우리는 안식일에 기도처가 있을 만한 곳을 찾아 성문 밖 강가로 갔습니다. 우리는 그 곳에 앉아, 모여든 여자들에게 말하기 시작하였습니다.
14 그 여자들 중에 두아디라라는 도시에서 온 루디아라는 여자가 있었습니다. 루디아는 자주색 옷감 장수였으며, 하나님을 섬기는 사람이었습니다. 루디아가 바울의 말을 귀담아 들을 수 있도록 주님께서 그녀의 마음을 여셨습니다.
15 루디아와 그 집안 식구들이 다 세례를 받았습니다. 그리고 루디아는 “제가 참으로 주님을 믿는 사람이라고 생각하신다면, 저희 집에 오셔서 머물러 주십시오”라고 간청하면서 우리를 자기 집으로 데리고 갔습니다.

6 Next Paul and Silas traveled through the area of Phrygia and Galatia, because the Holy Spirit had prevented them from preaching the word in the province of Asia at that time.
7 Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia①, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there. / ①Phrygia, Galatia, Asia, Mysia, and Bithynia were all districts in what is now Turkey
8 So instead, they went on through Mysia to the seaport of Troas.
9 That night Paul had a vision： A man from Macedonia in northern Greece was standing there, pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!”
10 So we① decided to leave for Macedonia at once, having concluded that God was calling us to preach the Good News there. / ①Luke, the writer of this book, here joined Paul and accompanied him on his journey
11 We boarded a boat at Troas and sailed straight across to the island of Samothrace, and the next day we landed at Neapolis.
12 From there we reached Philippi, a major city of that district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. And we stayed there several days.
13 On the Sabbath we went a little way outside the city to a riverbank, where we thought people would be meeting for prayer, and we sat down to speak with some women who had gathered there.
14 One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.
15 She was baptized along with other members of her household, and she asked us to be her guests. “If you agree that I am a true believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my home.” And she urged us until we agreed. Continue reading →

1 어떤 사람들이 유대에서 안디옥으로 와서 이방인 형제들에게 “모세가 가르친 풍습대로 할례를 받지 않으면 여러분은 구원 받을 수 없습니다”라고 가르치기 시작했습니다.
2 이 사건 때문에 바울과 바나바와 그들 사이에 격렬한 충돌과 논쟁이 발생했습니다. 그래서 안디옥 교회는 바울과 바나바와 다른 몇 사람을 예루살렘으로 올라가게 해서, 사도들과 장로들이 이 문제를 어떻게 생각하는지 알아보게 하였습니다.
3 바울과 그 일행은 교회의 전송을 받아 여행길을 떠났습니다. 그들은 베니게와 사마리아 지방을 거쳐 가면서 이방인들이 하나님께로 돌아온 이야기를 전했습니다. 그들은 모든 형제들에게 큰 기쁨을 주었습니다.
4 그들이 예루살렘에 이르자, 사도들과 장로들과 온 교회가 그들을 환영했습니다. 그들은 하나님께서 그들을 통해 일하신 모든 것을 보고했습니다.
5 그런데 바리새파에 속해 있다가 신자가 된 사람들 중에 “이방인들도 할례를 받아야 하며, 모세의 율법을 지켜야 합니다”라고 주장하는 사람들이 있었습니다.
6 사도들과 장로들이 이 문제를 의논하러 모였습니다.

1 While Paul and Barnabas were at Antioch of Syria, some men from Judea arrived and began to teach the believers： “Unless you are circumcised as required by the law of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
2 Paul and Barnabas disagreed with them, arguing vehemently. Finally, the church decided to send Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem, accompanied by some local believers, to talk to the apostles and elders about this question.
3 The church sent the delegates to Jerusalem, and they stopped along the way in Phoenicia and Samaria to visit the believers. They told them—much to everyone’s joy—that the Gentiles, too, were being converted.
4 When they arrived in Jerusalem, Barnabas and Paul were welcomed by the whole church, including the apostles and elders. They reported everything God had done through them.
5 But then some of the believers who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees stood up and insisted, “The Gentile converts must be circumcised and required to follow the law of Moses.”
6 So the apostles and elders met together to resolve this issue. Continue reading →

A Model For The Healthy Church

사도행전 11:19-26

19 스데반의 일로 발생한 박해 때문에 많은 신자들이 흩어졌습니다. 그들은 베니게와 키프로스와 안디옥까지 피해 가서는 오직 유대인에게만 말씀을 전했습니다.
20 그들 중에는 키프로스와 구레네 출신 사람이 있었는데, 이들은 안디옥에 이르러 그리스 사람들에게도 주 예수님에 관한 복음을 전했습니다.
21 주님의 손길이 그들과 함께 하셨으므로, 많은 사람들이 믿고 주님께로 돌아왔습니다.
22 이 소식이 예루살렘에 전해지자, 교회는 바나바를 안디옥으로 보냈습니다.
23 그는 안디옥에 도착하여 하나님의 은혜가 내린 것을 보고 기뻐했습니다. 그리고 모든 사람들에게 “마음을 굳게 하여 주님을 의지하십시오”라고 격려했습니다.
24 바나바는 착한 사람이요, 성령과 믿음이 충만한 사람이었습니다. 그래서 많은 사람들이 주님께로 돌아왔습니다.
25 바나바는 사울을 찾으러 다소로 갔습니다.
26 사울을 찾은 바나바는 사울을 안디옥으로 데려왔습니다. 두 사람은 일 년 동안, 교회에 머물면서 많은 사람을 가르쳤습니다. 제자들은 안디옥에서 처음으로 ‘그리스도인’이라고 불렸습니다.

19 Meanwhile, the believers who had been scattered during the persecution after Stephen’s death traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch of Syria. They preached the word of God, but only to Jews.
20 However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to the Gentiles① about the Lord Jesus. / ①Greek the Hellenists (i.e., those who speak Greek); other manuscripts read the Greeks
21 The power of the Lord was with them, and a large number of these Gentiles believed and turned to the Lord.
22 When the church at Jerusalem heard what had happened, they sent Barnabas to Antioch.
23 When he arrived and saw this evidence of God’s blessing, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord.
24 Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord.
25 Then Barnabas went on to Tarsus to look for Saul.
26 When he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. Both of them stayed there with the church for a full year, teaching large crowds of people. (It was at Antioch that the believers① were first called Christians.) / ①Greek disciples; also in 11.29

Paul’s Conversion

사도행전 9:1-9. 15-16

1 사울은 여전히 주님의 제자들을 죽이겠다는 생각으로 그들을 위협하고 있었습니다. 그는 대제사장에게 가서
2 다마스커스의 여러 회당에 보내는 편지를 써 달라고 했습니다. 남자든 여자든 그 도를 따르는 사람이 있으면, 닥치는 대로 붙잡아서 예루살렘으로 끌고 오려는 것이 그의 생각이었습니다.
3 사울이 길을 떠나 다마스커스 가까이에 이르렀을 때였습니다. 갑자기 하늘로부터 밝은 빛이 사울을 둘러 비췄습니다.
4 사울은 땅에 엎드렸습니다. 그 때, “사울아, 사울아, 네가 왜 나를 박해하느냐?” 하는 소리가 뚜렷이 들렸습니다.
5 사울은 “주님은 누구십니까?”라고 물었습니다. “나는 네가 박해하는 예수다.
6 일어나 성으로 들어가거라. 네가 해야 할 일을 일러 줄 사람이 있을 것이다”라는 목소리가 들렸습니다.
7 사울과 함께 길을 가던 사람들은 무슨 소리가 나는 것 같은데, 아무것도 보이지 않으므로 깜짝 놀라 말도 못하고 가만히 서 있었습니다.
8 사울은 땅에서 일어나 눈을 떴으나 아무것도 볼 수 없었습니다. 그래서 사울과 함께 있던 사람들이 그의 손을 잡고 다마스커스로 데려갔습니다.
9 사울은 삼 일 동안, 앞을 보지 못했으며, 먹지도 마시지도 않았습니다.
15 그러나 주님께서 아나니아에게 말씀하셨습니다. “가거라. 그는 이방 사람들과 여러 왕들과 이스라엘 백성 앞에서 나의 이름을 전하도록 선택된 나의 도구이다.
16 그가 내 이름을 위해 얼마나 많은 고난을 당해야 할지를 내가 그에게 보여 주겠다.”

1 Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord’s followers①. So he went to the high priest. / ①Greek disciples
2 He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. He wanted to bring them?both men and women?back to Jerusalem in chains.
3 As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him.
4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”
5 “Who are you, lord?” Saul asked And the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting!
6 Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
7 The men with Saul stood speechless, for they heard the sound of someone’s voice but saw no one!
8 Saul picked himself up off the ground, but when he opened his eyes he was blind. So his companions led him by the hand to Damascus.
9 He remained there blind for three days and did not eat or drink.
15 But the Lord said, “Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel.
16 And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.” Continue reading →
