요한복음 19:17-30

17 예수님께서 자신이 매달릴 십자가를 직접 지고 ‘해골의 터’(아람어로는 골고다)라는 곳으로 가셨습니다. 18 그 곳에서 사람들은 예수님을 십자가에 못박았습니다. 또한 예수님과 함께 다른 두 사람도 예수님을 가운데 두고 양편에 한 사람씩 십자가에 못박혔습니다. 19 빌라도는 명패를 써서 십자가 위에 붙였습니다. 거기에는 ‘유대인의 왕, 나사렛 예수’라고 쓰여 있었습니다. 20 많은 유대인들이 그 명패를 읽을 수 있었던 것은 예수님께서 죽으신 곳이 예루살렘 성에서 가깝고, 그 명패는 아람어, 라틴어, 그리스어로 씌어 있었기 때문입니다. 21 유대인의 대제사장들이 빌라도에게 “‘유대인의 왕’이라 쓰지 말고, ‘나는 유대인의 왕이다’라고 쓰십시오” 하면서 억지를 부렸습니다. 22 빌라도는 “나는 내가 쓸 것을 썼을 뿐이다!”라고 대답했습니다. 23 군인들은 예수님을 십자가에 못박은 뒤에, 그의 옷을 네 조각으로 나누었습니다. 그리고는 저마다 한 조각씩 나누어 가졌습니다. 그들은 속옷도 가져갔는데, 그 옷은 위로부터 아래까지 완전히 통으로 짠 것이었습니다. 24 그래서 군인들은 “이것은 찢지 말고 제비를 뽑아 누가 가질지 정하자”라고 말하였습니다. 이런 일이 일어난 것은 그렇게 되리라고 말한 성경 말씀을 이루기 위해서였습니다. “그들이 자기들끼리 내 옷을 나누고 내 옷을 가지려고 제비 뽑나이다.” 25 예수님의 십자가 곁에는, 예수님의 어머니와 예수님의 이모와 글로바의 아내 마리아와 막달라 마리아가 서 있었습니다. 26 예수님께서 그의 어머니와 그 곁에 사랑하는 제자가 서 있는 것을 보시고, 어머니를 향해 말씀하셨습니다. “여자여, 보십시오! 어머님의 아들입니다.” 27 그리고 그 제자에게는 “보아라, 네 어머니이시다”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그 때부터 이 제자는 예수님의 어머니를 자기 집에 모셨습니다. 28 이 후에 예수님께서는 이미 모든 것이 이루어진 줄 아시고 성경이 성취되도록 하기 위하여 “내가 목마르다”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 29 그 곳에 신 포도주가 담긴 항아리가 있었습니다. 군인들이 해면을 신 포도주에 흠뻑 적셔서, 우슬초 막대기에 매달아 예수님의 입으로 가져갔습니다. 30 예수님께서는 신 포도주를 맛보신 다음 “다 이루었다”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 이 말씀을 하신 후 고개를 아래로 떨구시고 운명하셨습니다.

17 Carrying the cross by himself, he went to the place called Place of the Skull①. / ①in Hebrew, Golgotha 18 There they nailed him to the cross. Two others were crucified with him, one on either side, with Jesus between them. 19 And Pilate posted a sign over him that read, “Jesus of Nazareth①, the King of the Jews.” / ①Or Jesus the Nazarene 20 The place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, so that many people could read it. 21 Then the leading priests objected and said to Pilate, “Change it from `The King of the Jews’ to `He said, I am King of the Jews.'” 22 Pilate replied, “No, what I have written, I have written.” 23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24 So they said, “Rather than tearing it apart, let’s throw dice for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.”① So that is what they did. / ①Ps 22.18 25 Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary (the wife of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” 27 And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home. 28 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.”① / ①See Pss 22.15; 69.21 29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.

종이 주인보다 크지 않다

요한복음 13:1-17

1 유월절 바로 전에, 예수님께서는 자신이 이 세상을 떠나 아버지께로 돌아갈 때가 왔다는 것을 아셨습니다. 예수님께서는 세상에 있는 자기의 사람들을 사랑하시되 끝까지 사랑하셨습니다. 2 저녁 식사를 하는 중이었습니다. 마귀가 이미 시몬의 아들 가룟 사람 유다의 마음속에 들어가 예수님을 배반할 생각을 갖게 하였습니다. 3 예수님께서는 아버지께서 자기에게 모든 것을 다스릴 권세를 주셨다는 것을 아셨습니다. 또한 그는 아버지께로부터 오셨다가 다시 아버지께로 돌아가실 것을 아셨습니다. 4 그래서 저녁 잡수시던 자리에서 일어나 겉옷을 벗고 수건을 가져다가 허리에 두르셨습니다. 5 예수님께서는 대야에 물을 부어 제자들의 발을 씻기시고, 두르신 수건으로 그들의 발을 닦아 주기 시작하셨습니다. 6 이윽고 시몬 베드로 차례가 되었을 때, 베드로는 예수님께 “주님, 주님께서 제 발을 씻기시렵니까?”라고 말했습니다. 7 예수님께서 베드로에게 대답하셨습니다. “네가 지금은 내가 하고 있는 행동을 이해하지 못할 것이지만 나중에는 이해할 것이다.” 8 베드로가 말했습니다. “제 발은 절대로 씻기지 못하십니다.” 예수님께서 대답하셨습니다. “내가 네 발을 씻기지 않으면, 너는 나와 상관이 없는 사람이 되고 만다.” 9 이 말을 들은 시몬 베드로는 “주님, 제 발만 아니라 손과 머리도 씻겨 주십시오!”라고 말했습니다. 10 예수님께서 베드로에게 말씀하셨습니다. “이미 목욕한 사람은 발만 씻으면 되는 법이다. 그 사람은 온몸이 깨끗하다. 그러므로 너희는 깨끗하다. 그러나 너희 모두가 다 깨끗한 것은 아니다.” 11 예수님께서 이렇게 말씀하신 것은 자기를 배반할 사람이 누군지 알고 계셨기 때문입니다. 그래서 “너희 모두가 다 깨끗한 것은 아니다”라고 말씀하신 것입니다. 12 예수님께서는 제자들의 발을 다 씻기신 뒤에, 옷을 입고 다시 자리에 앉으셔서, 그들에게 이런 질문을 하셨습니다. “내가 방금 전에 너희에게 행한 일이 무슨 뜻으로 한 것인지 이해하겠느냐? 13 너희가 나를 ‘선생님’ 또는 ‘주님’이라고 부르는데, 너희 말이 맞다. 나는 바로 그런 사람이다. 14 내가 선생과 주로서 너희 발을 씻겼으니, 너희도 서로 발을 씻겨 주어야 한다. 15 내가 너희에게 행한 그대로 너희도 행하게 하기 위해 내가 본을 보여 준 것이다. 16 내가 너희에게 진리를 말한다. 종이 자기 주인보다 크지 못하고, 보냄을 받은 자가 그를 보낸 자보다 크지 못한 법이다. 17 너희가 이것을 알고 그대로 행하면 너희에게 복이 있을 것이다.

1 Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end①. / ①Or he showed them the full extent of his love 2 It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas①, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. / ①Or the devil had already intended for Judas 3 Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. 6 When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” 8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” 9 Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!” 10 Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you disciples are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said, “Not all of you are clean.” 12 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? 13 You call me `Teacher’ and `Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. 16 I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. 17 Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

인자가 들려야 하리라!

요한복음 12:27-43

27 “지금 내 마음이 무척 괴로우니 무슨 말을 하겠습니까? 아버지, 이 때를 벗어나게 해 주십시오. 아닙니다. 나는 이 일 때문에 이 때에 온 것입니다. 28 아버지, 아버지의 이름을 영화롭게 하소서!” 그 때, 하늘로부터, “내가 이미 영화롭게 하였고, 또다시 영화롭게 할 것이다”라는 소리가 들렸습니다. 29 곁에 서서 이 소리를 들은 많은 사람이 천둥 소리가 들렸다고 말했습니다. 그러나 그 사람들 중에는 “천사가 그에게 말하였다”라고 하는 사람들도 있었습니다. 30 예수님께서는 이렇게 대답하셨습니다. “이 소리는 나를 위해서가 아니라, 너희를 위해서 들린 것이다. 31 이제 이 세상을 심판할 때가 되었다. 이제 이 세상의 통치자가 쫓겨날 것이다. 32 내가 땅에서 들려 올라가게 되면, 나는 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌 것이다.” 33 예수님께서 이런 말씀을 하신 것은 자신이 어떤 식으로 죽을 것인가를 보이려는 것이었습니다. 34 군중은 이 말을 듣자, 이렇게 말했습니다. “우리는 율법에서 그리스도가 영원히 계실 것이라고 들었습니다. 그런데 당신은 어떻게 해서 ‘인자가 들려야 한다’고 말씀하십니까? 당신이 말씀하시는 ‘인자’란 도대체 누구입니까?” 35 그러자 예수님께서 대답하셨습니다. “빛이 잠시만 더 너희와 함께 있을 것이다. 빛이 있을 때에 다니면 너희는 어둠에 사로잡히지 않을 것이다. 어둠 속에서 다니는 사람은 자기가 어디로 가는지 모른다. 36 빛이 너희에게 있을 동안 빛을 믿어라. 그러면 너희는 빛의 아들이 될 것이다.” 예수님께서는 이 말씀을 하시고 그들을 떠나 숨으셨습니다. 37 예수님께서 이 모든 표적을 사람들 앞에서 행하셨지만, 그들은 여전히 예수님을 믿으려 하지 않았습니다. 38 이것은 이사야 예언자의 말씀이 이루어진 것입니다. “주님이시여, 우리가 전한 것을 누가 믿었습니까? 주님의 능력이 누구에게 나타났습니까?” 39 이런 이유 때문에, 사람들은 믿을 수가 없었습니다. 다시 이사야 예언자는 말하였습니다. 40 “주님께서 그들의 눈을 멀게 하시고 그들의 마음을 완고하게 하셨으니 그들이 눈으로 보고 마음으로 깨닫고 돌아와 고침을 받지 못하게 하려는 것이다.” 41 이사야가 이런 말을 한 것은 그가 예수님의 영광을 보고, 예수님에 관하여 말했기 때문입니다. 42 그러나 동시에 지도자들 중에서도 예수님을 믿는 사람이 많이 생겼습니다. 하지만 그들은 바리새인들 때문에 예수님을 믿는다고 고백하지는 못했습니다. 그들은 회당에서 쫓겨날까 두려워했습니다. 43 그들은 사람에게 칭찬받는 것을 하나님께 칭찬받는 것보다 더 좋아했습니다.

27 “Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, `Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came! 28 Father, bring glory to your name.” Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.” 29 When the crowd heard the voice, some thought it was thunder, while others declared an angel had spoken to him. 30 Then Jesus told them, “The voice was for your benefit, not mine. 31 The time for judging this world has come, when Satan, the ruler of this world, will be cast out. 32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.” 33 He said this to indicate how he was going to die. 34 The crowd responded, “We understood from Scripture that the Messiah would live forever. How can you say the Son of Man will die? Just who is this Son of Man, anyway?” 35 Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. 36 Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.” After saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them. 37 But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. 38 This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted： “LORD, who has believed our message? To whom has the LORD revealed his powerful arm?”① / ①Isa 53.1 39 But the people couldn’t believe, for as Isaiah also said, 40 “The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts? so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them.”① / ①Isa 6.10 41 Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah’s glory. 42 Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. 43 For they loved human praise more than the praise of God. Continue reading →

나를 섬기려면 나를 따르라!

요한복음 12:20-26

20 유월절에 예배 드리기 위해 예루살렘에 온 사람들 중에 그리스 사람들이 더러 있었습니다. 21 이 사람들이 갈릴리 벳새다 출신인 빌립에게 와서 요청했습니다. “선생님, 우리가 예수님을 뵙고 싶습니다.” 22 빌립이 안드레에게 가서 말하였고, 안드레와 빌립은 다시 예수님께 그 말을 전했습니다. 23 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨습니다. “인자가 영광을 받을 때가 왔다. 24 내가 너희에게 진리를 말한다. 밀알이 땅에 떨어져 죽지 않으면 한 알 그대로 있지만, 죽으면 많은 열매를 맺는 법이다. 25 자기 목숨을 사랑하는 사람은 목숨을 잃을 것이지만 이 세상에서 자기 목숨을 미워하는 사람은 영원히 목숨을 보존할 것이다. 26 누구든지 나를 섬기려면 나를 따르라. 내가 있는 곳에 나를 섬기는 사람도 있을 것이다. 나를 섬기는 사람은 내 아버지께서 높이실 것이다.”

20 Some Greeks who had come to Jerusalem for the Passover celebration 21 paid a visit to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee. They said, “Sir, we want to meet Jesus.” 22 Philip told Andrew about it, and they went together to ask Jesus. 23 Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. 24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels–a plentiful harvest of new lives. 25 Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. 26 Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.
