Then call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by setting fire to the wood is the true God!” And all the people agreed. (New Living Translation)

이번주일 아이들 설교말씀은 엘리야 선지자와 바알의 선지자들 이야기입니다. 삼년간 이스라엘에는 비가 내리지 않았습니다. 하나님께서는 엘리야 선지자를 아합 왕에게 보내셨고, 엘리야 선지자는 앞으로 무슨 일이 일어날 것인지 이야기 하였습니다. 하지만 아합왕은 여전히 엘리야 선지자의 말을 듣지 않았습니다. 엘리야 선지자는 누가 진짜 하나님인지 확인해보자고 제안을 했습니다. 엘리야와 바알 선지자들은 갈멜산에 두개의 제단을 세우고 각자의 신에게 제사를 지냈습니다. 바알 선지자들이 그들의 신에게 열심히 제사를 지냈지만 아무 일도 일어나지 않았습니다. 엘리야 선지자는 그의 제단에 열두번이나 물을 부은 후에 하나님에게 기도를 드렸습니다. 하나님께서는 엘리야 선지자의 기도를 들어주셨고 그 제단에 불을 내리셨습니다. 그 자리에 있던 모든 사람들이 엘리야의 하나님이 참된 하나님이심을 알게 되었습니다. 우리 아이들도 날마다 하나님께 기도할때에 하나님의 음성을 듣는 믿음의 자녀들 되기를 기도합니다.

The sermon for this Sunday worship is about the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. No rain fell in the land of Israel for three years. One day, God sent Elijah before King Ahab to tell the king what God was going to do. But King Ahab still did not listen to Elijah’s warnings. Elijah proposed to find out who the true God is. On Mount Carmel, Elijah and the prophets of Baal built two altars, and they worshiped to their gods. The prophets of Baal worshiped God first, but nothing happened. Elijah took twelve buckets of water and poured them on the altar. When Elijah was praying God, suddenly heaven opened up and fire exploded from the sky onto Elijah’s altar. The people of Israel became silent and knew the truth that Elijah’s God was the only true God. We pray that our children become children of faith who always pray to God and listen to God’s words.
